USA: The American Academy of Lymphatic and Wound Management (AALWM) will be launching more training courses for lymphedema care givers.

According to the CEO, this follows a bigger demand for in-depth courses that would address the new innovations in the care management of patients battling lymphatic vein disorders, including lymphorrhea.

In his words, the upcoming value-added lymphatic and wound management courses will be more practicum-based and clinically focused. Some of the courses will have an integrative rehab approach taking into account the interdisciplinary management of patients.

Calling wound therapy the gold standard in lymphedema treatment, the CEO said the new courses have been designed with a plan for optimum patient outcome.

The proposed courses also include the Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) course, Certified Compression Therapy Specialist, and Certified Wound Therapist.

The CEO also added that many of the new courses will carry a hybrid format and almost 70 hours of hands-on practicum training and workshops via on-site or tele-training formats.

The courses aim to prepare students to successfully handle lymphedema wound care and related issues like swollen lymph nodes disease.

Integrated courses

The advanced certification programs are expected to equip freshly trained professionals’ expertise on rehabilitation services in the field of lymphedema management and wound care. The full certification will impart comprehensive knowledge and hands-on skills to treat chronic edema.

Overall, the content of courses will have total certification in Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), Custom, and Multi-Layered Lymphedema Bandaging (MLLB). Also, classes on garment selection, skin, and wound care will run concurrently.

Exhaustive course materials

The lymphatic wound management course will offer extensive learning materials in terms of digital course books, clinical tools, bandaging supplies, debridement and workshop supplies, and many sample products. The hands-on workshops will broaden intensive didactic learning for aspirants.

Focus on Innovative Techniques

The new courses have an updated approach to compression garment selection and edema assessment. The courses will be rich in the latest methods of robust compression techniques.

It will assist caregivers to attain greater mastery on how to perform a bedside ABI (Ankle Brachial Index) and handle full-limb, multi-layered bandaging systems that will stay longer and soften fibrotic tissues. That will help in the care of stage 3 lymphedema conditions.

The new courses will also capture the latest in lymphatic disease management therapy. They include assessment and treatment of the lymphatic-integumentary system with a focus on leg lymphedema.

The CEO expects prospective lymphedema care professionals will make use of this big opportunity from lymphatic and wound management courses and visit www.aalwm.us
