Should I Pull My Child’s Loose Baby Tooth?

Posted June 1, 2022 by Aditya4312

Parents constantly worry about their children. In the world today, it is easy to worry about your kid getting sick, cars, kidnapping and more.

When a child loses a tooth, it can be hard for parents to decide if they should pull the tooth or wait for it to fall out naturally.

Loose baby teeth are common and while they can sometimes fall out on their own or are removed by a family member, occasionally they may need to be removed by a dentist.
This is especially true if the tooth has been knocked out of its socket by an accident or force, or if the tooth is loose but not coming out. There is also the risk that a baby tooth will break off below the gum line and an infection will set in.

Whether you're trying to get your children to floss or encouraging them to visit the pediatric dentist for regular checkups, it can always use a little help. Here are five ways you might be able to improve communication between you and your kids.

RiteSmile Dental is a pediatric dentist in the township of Branchburg in Somerset County, New Jersey. As a family-oriented practice, we understand how tough it can be to find the time and make the effort to encourage better oral hygiene habits. By working with your children, getting them comfortable with the dentist office, and creating a fun and positive experience, you can help foster good oral hygiene habits that will last them well into adulthood.

Dr. Sandeep Kaur, a pediatric dentist in Manhattan, offers tips on how to encourage better oral hygiene habits in children.

1. First and foremost, it’s important to be a good role model for your children. If you take care of your teeth and visit the dentist regularly, your kids will be more likely to do the same. Explain to them why oral hygiene is important and let them see you brushing and flossing your own teeth.

2. Start early. It’s never too soon to start teaching your children about oral hygiene. As soon as their teeth start coming in, you can begin brushing them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and water. When they’re old enough, you can introduce them to fluoride toothpaste.

3. Make it fun. There are a lot of ways to make brushing and flossing teeth more enjoyable for kids. You can let them choose their own toothbrush and toothpaste, or let them pick out a sticker after they brush their teeth. You can also try singing a song while you brush or making up a story about the importance of oral hygiene.

4. Give rewards. Another way to encourage good oral hygiene habits is to offer rewards for completing tasks like brushing their teeth twice a day or flossing once a day. For example, you could give them a sticker chart where they earn stickers for every day that they brush and floss their teeth without being reminded by you. Once they fill up the chart, they could get a prize like an extra bedtime story or an outing to their favorite park.
