North Central Michigan University (NCMU) students are excited to announce the hosting of an engaging and informative workshop on resume writing, designed to equip fellow students with essential skills for career advancement. The workshop will take place on November 10, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the NCMU Student Center.
In today’s competitive job market, having a polished resume is crucial for standing out among potential employers. The workshop aims to provide students with practical insights and strategies to create impactful resumes that highlight their skills, experiences, and accomplishments. Led by a team of experienced students from NCMU's Career Development Program, participants will learn the importance of tailoring their resumes to specific job opportunities and how to effectively showcase their strengths.
“The job search process can be daunting, especially for students entering the workforce for the first time,” said Sarah Thompson, a junior at NCMU and one of the workshop organizers. “We wanted to create a space where students can learn how to present themselves effectively to potential employers, and to build their confidence as they embark on their career journeys.”
During the workshop, participants will engage in hands-on activities, including peer reviews and personalized feedback sessions. Attendees will also receive valuable resources, including templates and tips for crafting resumes that meet current industry standards. Additionally, guest speakers from various industries will share their insights on what employers look for in a resume, providing students with a broader perspective on the hiring process.
“Resumes are often the first impression that employers have of a candidate,” said Dr. John Evans, Director of the Career Development Program at NCMU. “Our goal is to empower students with the tools they need to make that first impression a great one. We encourage all students, regardless of their major or year, to attend this workshop.”
The resume writing workshop is free of charge and open to all NCMU students. Pre-registration is encouraged, as space is limited. Students can sign up through the NCMU Career Services website or by visiting the Student Center.
In addition to the workshop, NCMU’s Career Development Program offers a range of services to support students in their career pursuits, including one-on-one career counseling, mock interviews, and internship placement assistance. The university is committed to fostering an environment that prepares students for success beyond their academic experience.
