Pot has gotten a bad reputation over the years as being a harmful drug that everyone needs to steer clear of. But in the past several decades, the idea of the medicinal benefits of cannabis has become a hot topic. There's discussion of how the marijuana plant and the oil from the seeds might assist in many different ailments, such as atherosclerosis, arthritis and Parkinson's disease. But what's even more intriguing is that cannabis oil could very well be a different treatment for cancer patients.

The History of Medical Marijuana

This is a recent term that has been coined for clinical use of marijuana, but the notion of using it for this particular purpose is not so fresh. For centuries, people have cultivated this plant. There is a male and female - the female being the sole called marijuana. There is plenty of evidence that indicates the usage of marijuana in the early days. For example, there was more than two pounds of cannabis found within a 2,700 year-old shaman tomb within Central Asia.

Many different cultures have intentions for the marijuana plant, all relating to some kind of treatment or medication.

The Plant is Outlawed

It was only in 1939 when the Congress passed a law prohibiting Americans from using cannabis for recreational or therapeutic purposes. Then in 1970, the plant has been officially classified as a controlled substance. As a result of this, both the naturopathic and traditional medical communities couldn't consider its use.

However, now that states are legalizing the medical use of cannabis, more experimentation can be done. And thus far, we have found that cannabis oil works wonders fighting against cancer cells. It is an alternate cancer treatment that individuals could have access to.
