Hong Kong - Ventury Silverlight socks have surpassed its funding goal on Indiegogo. The unique socks for hikers and trail runners alike are poised to disrupt the hiking market for socks, currently dominated by brands like Darn Tough and Smartwool. Silverlight socks with their ability to eliminate bacteria surrounding the feet, thanks to the use of silver yarns woven throughout the sock, can be worn for days or even weeks on end without producing any odor.
Designed to solve the main problems of hikers: blisters and moisture; the socks use gentle compression to prevent rubbing, bunching up, slipping and other movements during the hike, the main source of blisters. Soft padding around the heel and toes provide cushioning and comfort. The blend of Merino Wool on the inside and Nylon and Spandex on the outside create a silky smooth feeling surrounding the feet, while wicking moisture away and drying significantly faster than comparable hiking socks on the market today.
A first small sample run has been well received by hikers in the US and around the world.
Andy Politz one of the Ventury beta testers commented: “I’m not sure if I ever had a sock match a walker’s needs so well: stay in place, cushioning, comfort... In my 45 years of adventuring activities, they are a highly valued innovation and will be on my feet from here on out. I have a new favorite gift for friends!”
Another beta tester Deana Vickers had a similar experience: “The fit and feel is just what I was hoping for. Snug, they stay put with no rubbing. I have worn them to the gym twice and 2 hikes around 5-7 miles each. They smell and feel as fresh as when I received them. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being best I would give them an 11! Love everything about these socks.”
The dissatisfaction with current solutions led Ventury founder Ralph S. to look for ways to address the problems he experienced on the trail: “Blisters, odor and wet feet are the main reasons hikers have a bad experience, foot pain or even having to turn back in the middle of a hike. After testing many different hiking socks on the market I didn’t find a single one that solved everything for me. That’s when the idea of the Silverlight socks was born.”
The company surveyed over 900 hikers and nearly 85% of said their #1 frustration was wet or moist feet while hiking. Merino wool is known for sweat-wicking properties and has been a stable in outdoor gear for a long time, from socks to underwear and t-shirts. However, it isn’t as fast drying as or as durable as synthetic fibers like nylon. In order to get the best properties from both materials, Silverlight socks are knitted together like two layers working in tandem to support, aerate and comfort the foot, while keeping it dry.
They also come with an unconditional lifetime guarantee, showing that Ventury is completely trusting in the quality of their product.
The campaign is currently still live on Indiegogo and ends on August the 17th, 2019:
Inspired by space suits and medical industries Ventury applies silver yarns for the first time to hiking gear, starting with hiking socks. Silverlight items can be worn longer and save volume on multi-day hikes. Ventury Silverlight keeps gear fresh and odor-free and enables to pack lighter and smaller than ever before.
