Radio is an integral part of our lives, even if we may not always realise it. Be it long hours of traffic, or a jog or maybe just day-to-day chores, just switching on the radio adds life to mundane routines.

But have you ever stopped to realise what’s the element that adds so much joy? It’s a Radio Jockey. In simple words, they are the charmers who amuse us with their funny antics, anecdotes and playlists.

A Radio Jockey, popularly known as an RJ, is a person who hosts a talk show on the radio. It is an exciting, promising and extremely challenging career for music lovers. If one is interested in a radio jockey career, then it is very important to have a spontaneous, pleasant, friendly personality. If one wants to pursue a career in this field, having a strong command over the language and good voice is always an add on advantage.

Eligibility
One can enter into the field of radio jockey after completing class 12 or higher secondary schooling.

Candidates can also do short-term certificate and diploma courses in this field. The most important thing in this career apart from voice is having a good eloquence and clear pronunciation.

Types of Job Roles
Apart from the required qualification, a radio jockey needs certain skills as the job of a Radio Jockey is diversifying nature.

FM/AM Radio Jockeys: They usually work on public radio stations. Their role is to interact with the audience, play music or talk or sometimes both.

Talk Radio Jockeys: The role of talk radio jockeys is to only talk for the entire period of the show, and to discuss a variety of topics. They also interact with the audience and viewers of the show. They need to know current affairs, issues and trending topics.

Sports Talk Radio Jockeys: The Sports Talk Radio Jockeys have to be either a former athlete, a television anchor or sportswriter. They are required to interact with viewers to discuss different types of sports news and happenings. It is important for them to have in-depth knowledge of sports.

Satellite Radio Jockeys: They usually talk or play explicit content without considering the sensitivity of the issue and are not regulated by any board. Their role is similar to FM/AM radio jockeys.

Employment Opportunities
There are good employment opportunities for Radio Jockeys in both government and private sectors.
Government Sector: Radio Jockeys can find work in government organisations like AIR (All India Radio), state-wise radio stations and other radio stations.

Private Sector: In the private sector, there is a lot of scope for job opportunities in companies such as Radio Mirchi, Big FM, Red FM, Times FM, Radio Star and many other independent radio stations.

Apart from these Radio Jockeys can also apply for voice-over/ Dubbing artists for commercials, television shows and movies.
