Between Old School RuneScape offering players the old-fashioned 2006 experience and the less-than-full-time DarkScape offering players more PvP-based experience. Developer Jagex has joined forces with board game maker Steamforged Games to release not just two tabletop games throughout the course of 2022.

Steamforged Games' collaboration and Jagex is the most recent in a long line cooperations that brings some of gaming's biggest franchises to a tabletop experience. The tabletop gaming powerhouse has produced board games based on series like Monster Hunter World and Dark Souls and most recently completed an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign for the Resident Evil 2 board game in which they raised more than one million GBP during the course of the year.

Now, the developer is aiming at Gielinor's world as well as RuneScape with plans to release both a board game and a core book for the tabletop RPG this year. The two RPG adaptations will feature a variety of RuneScape's most famous characters and places, allowing groups of up to five players to compete against classic quests from RuneScape and bring the adventure in the realm of Gielinor to the home of Gielinor.

Players will be able to design and upgrade equipment, interact with NPCs and tackle various side-quests that are influenced by the classic MMORPG. The board game is scheduled to launch by means of an Kickstarter campaign later in the year. The tabletop RPG book will debut in stores.

The primary book for tabletop RPGs will also be compatible with massive tabletop games Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition primary books, allowing Dungeon masters to seamlessly incorporate elements from RuneScape into their campaigns.

Jagex Director of Operations Phil Mansell was optimistic about the project expressing his enthusiasm regarding this Kickstarter campaign "involving all the RuneScape and RuneScape communities" while Steamforged CCO Mat Hart believed the "rich RuneScape universe" will translate beautifully" into a tabletop-based environment.

RuneScape has been expanding significantly from its browser-based origins in recent years with Steamforged's board game as the most recent game from Jagex. In an interview, a variety of Jagex employees discussed the possibility of transforming Runescape's mobile version into an app that runs across platforms and this past September.
