Chinese author Wei Rong Chu has taken the lead in bridging the gap between Eastern Chinese culture and the Modern West by translating ancient poems from the Tang Dynasty so that bilingual readers of both English and Chinese can enjoy them. The author created "A New Approach to Chinese Tang Dynasty Poetry Translation – From Chinese Rap to Peking Opera" to provide insight to individuals who have a deep interest in Chinese culture and want to connect with it through poetry.

"The Tang Dynasty is renowned by the world as the golden age of Chinese arts and culture, with the era brimming with artists and poets that significantly contributed to the culture. Sadly, the language border has limited the spread of these inscriptions in the West. Even with translations of poems being present, they lack the rhythm in which they were to be played or listened to. That's what my book overcomes."

Wei Rong Chu focused his attention on the verbiage and poem recitation style for translation. Through careful use of vocabulary and beating the rhyme flow of original poems, he was able to find a balance that allows for a rhythmic pattern that both bilingual speakers of Mandarin and English can enjoy.

"My main approach with the poems was to ensure that they don't lose rhythm even if they are translated or recited in English using the original rhythmic pattern of the classic chosen. It was why I had to sacrifice some of the original meaning of the poem. This led to a more than satisfactory result as I translated the poems that don't lose their roots," The author explained when asked about his approach to the translation process.

The author is determined that the translated book can help people worldwide know more about his culture and reinforce the Golden Era of Arts in China.

With degrees from prestigious institutions, including Sichuan Foreign Languages University and SUNY Cortland College, Chu has dedicated his career to bridging cultures through the art of translation.
