Despite the massive advances we’ve made into data protection and recovery, it still isn’t as easy as you might think. This is because it takes people with immense IT skills to be able to get the best recovery systems in place. As a result, disaster recovery specialists are a fast-emerging job sector and they’re highly sought after for all kinds of businesses.

When we talk about a disaster recovery specialist, we are talking about more than just when a computer breaks beyond repair. While this is catastrophic for the work that has been saved on that one individual computer, the risk of a man made or natural disaster occurring where your business is set up is often much higher than is worth the risk. Fires, hurricanes, flooding, and other disasters can all occur with little or no warning, and if that is the case recovering the data of your company can be almost impossible without a plan or system in place.

A disaster recovery specialist works to come up with a company disaster recovery plan, so that should the worst occur, you will be able to get your business back up and running in the fastest time possible. They work alongside the current IT department to ensure that the areas of the company they are keeping most secure are those that are absolutely necessary.

The plan might use a whole host of different disaster recovery tools and will be something that is implemented when a disaster is occurring. While some things may be easier to put into place, such as offsite storage (especially with cloud based clients), there are other things that might take more time to put into place. Once a disaster recovery plan has been put into place, it is much like other forms of disaster planning, and the company needs to undertake drills on occasion to make sure everything runs smoothly.

While you can hire disaster recovery specialists to come up with a plan for your company on an ad-hoc basis, it is advised that you also get them to check out the plan on a regular basis. As times move on we are better able to look after what we have created; and checking back in will keep you up to date with the latest technology.
