No Worries about Green Issues with FUSION PoE Access Control

With seemingly no end in sight to high energy costs, many businesses and organisations are looking for ways of reducing their energy bills and usage.
 
Together with environmental regulations and concerns, manufacturers have to look more closely at their processes and products to see how they can make them more energy efficient and also reduce their impact on the environment.

The company's FUSION range of products has been developed using a 'clean design' policy which ensures that all products are highly energy-efficient, have low impact on the environment during manufacture and consume the minimum amount of materials.

Borer's products not only meet EuP (Energy using Products) regulation but also the RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances) Directive and the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive.

Borer's FUSION product range has involved environmental concerns from the earliest stage.

These included:

• Reducing the quantity of raw materials by mass as well as the energy used in the manufacturing process by designing smaller and more compact products.
• Reducing the amount of packaging and the financial and environmental cost of shipping by making products smaller and lighter.
• Minimising the complexity of systems and associated infrastructure and installation time.
• Reducing the amount of energy consumed by designing products which use the available energy more efficiently.
• Restricting the volume of waste to dispose of at the end of the product's life cycle by using fewer raw materials in the manufacturing process.

Using Power over Ethernet technology, enables Borer hardware to be powered over CAT5e cabling. What’s more, the FUSION software monitors and manages power usage ensuring that the cabling can never be over-loaded, eliminating any associated potential risks.

Sophisticated power usage reporting assists in the diagnosis of equipment faults and their swift rectification. This can reduce significantly the need for maintenance visits and engineering time on site. It is estimated that eighty percent of reported hardware faults can be resolved by simply power resetting the equipment. The technology pioneered by Borer allows all but real equipment failures to be resolved remotely by instructing the Midspan Bridge to power reset the relevant device; often this is all that is needed to resolve a reported fault.

The result is a system that is not only easier to install and maintain but uses less energy and reduces the volume equipment deployed. Note, the WEEE directive 2012/19/EC and the EU battery directive 2006/66/EC will increase costs with the disposal of used electronic equipment and batteries.
