Treatment of Sleep Breathing Disorder/Sleep Apnea
A nap test can now be performed in the patient's own home. The patient's breathing attempt, heartbeat, oxygen saturation, nasal flow, and snoring are all evaluated during the research to see if they have sleep apnea or sleep-disordered breathing. Traditional polysomnography (PSG) measures neural activity (EEG), ocular movements (EOG), muscular activity or skeletal muscle activation (EMG), and heart rhythm throughout an overnight stay in a sleep clinic (ECG).
For the sleep study, PCS uses the ResMed ApneaLinkTM Air. To begin the monitoring, the patient sets the sensors on specific regions of the body the night before the sleep test. Apneas, hypopneas, flow constriction, snoring, and blood oxygen levels are all detected by the ApneaLink Air home sleep testing gadget. It also assesses the likelihood of Cheyne-Stokes respiration (CSR) breathing rates within the recording, enabling for precise separation of Pulmonary and Central apneas.
One of PCS's Board Certified Sleep Medicine Specialists examines the patient's outcomes thoroughly. The outcomes of the sleep study will be discussed with the patient during a follow-up office visit, during which the Sleep Apnea Doctor will discuss the problem (if it exists), its intensity, potential health consequences, and treatment choices.
