We've always believed in that RuneScape's game has potential in the empty space. Melvor Idle is a great proof that RuneScape can inspire a brilliant idle game. But Melvor Idle stands up on its own merits as well, and we wanted to remain as true to the original vision of it that Brendan did when he first started making it."
Pfeiffer also points to the success of Melvor Idle as proof of how the talent that is available can come from any game's community, something Jagex has seen before. "We've always observed it to be the RuneScape group to be an excellent opportunity for talent at Jagex not only in terms of game developers but all of the many roles within a games studio," the director states. "RuneScape has had more than 300 million accounts created over 20 years, so the amount of highly skilled people who have been a part of the game is immense."
After the success of their partnership in the past with Games By Malcs, Pfeiffer says he's looking forward to working more with indie devs around the globe, particularly if they're working on project that "align with the RuneScape design philosophy and Jagex's core values" And he hopes Melvor Idle's success will encourage more indies to reach out to the studio.
With the latest version 1.0 of Melvor Idle out, Games By Malcs and Jagex are working together on future content, as well as new titles in the Melvor universe. Malcolm is thankful to Jagex for its continued help, particularly when is about bringing new players to the game.
"They are also great in ensuring that Melvor Idle has reached more people than I've ever had the chance to reach by myself for both players within the RuneScape community as well as outside of it," he says. "With the release of the full version this week, I'm looking ahead meeting with Jagex on both making Melvor Idle a bigger hit, and on the next projects."
