The idea behind using the new technique is that unique acoustics are produced as well as stunning natural light. The hall is perfect for parties, conferences and performances, and is a real asset to the Ice Hotel.

If you're heading to Sweden in search of the Northern Lights, you really should include a stay in the incredible original Ice Hotel, Sweden. Rebuilt every year, the latest edition of the concept is a real contradiction in terms, as it has areas based on the idea of a rainforest.

Introducing the Ice Hotel

Sweden’s famous Ice Hotel, located in Jukkasjärvi, was rebuilt again last year for the 25th time, just in time for the winter season. Opening its reindeer clad doors in December 2014, it revealed a whole new take on what the constructions of the past had offered. The eclectic collection of European folk art and rainforest features is incorporated into Baroque architecture and stands alongside abstract images of love, the inner workings of a clock, and much more.

The huge array of art and design appears at first to be almost overwhelming, but the clever way it has been bound together, combining such contrasting ideas and images is surprisingly harmonious. The "Time Piece" represents the inner workings of a clock, complete with cogs and wheels, while the "Prime Mate" room takes you to the other side of the world and drops you right in the middle of the rainforest. Yet another room was designed to celebrate the art of printing, and here guests can enjoy the beautiful way the old craft of printing has been commemorated.

Every year the hotel is remade with 20 suites, each uniquely created and carved out of the ice. This year, as every year, the design was chosen from several proposals submitted to the committee, and it features an event hall, bar area, the Aurora Hall and a workshop hog hair car wash brush where guests can enjoy ice-sculpting classes. Some 42 artists were involved in the project and 11 countries were represented in this edition of the Ice Hotel.

Sweden is well known for its innovative and cutting edge design and the Aurora Hall in the Ice Hotel is one of the latest examples. Built incorporating a specialised technique that involves ice being cast on to a giant balloon, the hall has solid inner walls and outer walls that are covered in soft snow. The idea behind using the new technique is that unique acoustics are produced as well as stunning natural light. The hall is perfect for parties, conferences and performances, and is a real asset to the Ice Hotel.
