Chennai based, oldest bike manufacturer, Royal Enfield has launched the much awaited Himalayan adventurer tourer in India today at Rs 1.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The on-road (Mumbai) price of the bike is Rs 1.78 lakh.
The bike was revealed a day before the 2016 Auto Expo at Delhi in February and since then the customers are eager to receive it.
Royal Enfield Himalayan is powered by a 411cc air-cooled, single-cylinder, 4 stroke engine which produces 24.5bhp of power at 6500 rpm and 32Nm of torque at 4000-4500 rpm. The engine features a Single Overhead Camshaft (SOHC) and a counter balance that reduces vibrations of the engine.
Himalayan is loaded with features that have been developed for the sole purpose of making the bike is to cover more miles rather than to win a race.
It comes with a 41mm telescopic front forks with 200mm travel. At the rear, the suspension mechanism includes a Monoshock with a linkage that offers 180mm travel. The ground clearance being at 220 mm, it easily handles Indian roads, much better than most sedans.
The bike features a 21-inch front tyre and 17-inch rear tyre, measuring 2190mm long, 840mm wide and 1360mm height. The seat height is at 800mm whereas, the wheel base is at 1465mm. With a fuel capacity of 15 litres, the bike weighs about 182 kgs.
At the front, the braking system consists of 300mm disc with 2 pistons floating caliper and at the rear a 240 mm single piston floating caliper does the braking duties. Himalayan will be available only in two colours – snow and granite.
Other features include upright riding position, long travel suspension, round rear view mirrors, up-swept exhaust and semi-analogue instrument cluster. Storage space is available both at the front and at the rear to facilitate long journeys.
This much awaited 2016 motorcycle, Himalayan will definitely satisfy people who are looking for affordable adventure tourers.
