[California, May 6, 2016] – Mikroscan Distributed Pathology, a manufacturer of live remote microscopy solutions located in California, provides pathologists and hospitals with Live-Q Real Time Pathology. This allows clients to examine tissue specimens in real time on the glass slide. The client can view frozen sections, cytology preparations, and other specimen evaluations instantly, without the need for digitized representation.

Real Time Evaluations

Mikroscan Distributed Pathology allows clients to view and evaluate specimens in real time without needing to travel to the location of the specimen. Live-Q works in conjunction with the SL5, a comprehensive telepathology and whole slide imaging device.

Live-Q allows pathologists to view the real state of the glass slides and collaborate with their colleagues. With the remote system, the user can choose the planes of focus instead of relying on the software to do it for them. This provides the user with greater control over their view of the slide.

According to Mikroscan, Live-Q allows the viewer to focus the specimen over an X, Y, Z coordinate system. The pathologist can choose to define their own image planes and determine specific points of interest.

Remote Digital Pathology

The Live-Q program can handle a frame rate of up to 30 frames per second. Users can view the images on a 1920x1080 monitor. The recommended bandwidth is 6-10MBps.

The team at Mikroscan states that the software can improve telepathological evaluations. This minimizes the risks of misdiagnosing a patient, as the pathologist can view and interact with the whole slide in real time instead of relying on a digital image. Live-Q gives full remote control of the SL5 to the user.
