Veteran Ranks being removed and replaced with Champion System
Veteran Ranks has been removed from Elder Scrolls Online. The Champion System is set to replace the leveling aspect of VR and the new Champion Point cap provides a more traditional vertical leveling experience. Champion Points are also set to influence gear in the future.

The removal of the Veteran Rank system means your character’s strength after level 50 is tracked exclusively via Champion Points. Champion Points will be gained much faster than Veteran Ranks due to Enlightenment and Champion Point cost scaling. Enlightened players gain XP 300% faster, and Champion Point scaling ensures that it will take less XP to earn Champion Points at low Champion levels.
Why does Veteran Ranks get removed?
Reward is the biggest issue with VR. You grind for 18 hours, get your single VR level, and then you just obtain a single skill point and a single stat point. However with the release of Champion System, you can gain 1 attribute point and 1 skill point each time you level up. Also you have a chance to win an extra 16 attribute and 16 stat points.

The reason for transitioning away from Veteran Ranks is to streamline the leveling process and make it easier to spread Champion Points to other characters on your account.
Core game play experience remains unchanged with removal of VR.
The CP system is no different than the VR system except how the numbers are being presented. If you have a VR 16 and your account already has at least 160 CP, your character will be no different than before.

Your alt will still need skill points granted through the various quests. Whether Alts who aren't intended to be Crafters need Skill Points through the quests depends on how many skills you want to unlock. You can simply quest in your home Alliance while picking up the Skyshards and Lore Books. And then start doing Pledges each day at Level 45 for additional Skill Points. If you need a few more Skill Points then just quickly collect as many Skyshards as required.
Is Champion System a good alternative?
Many players are very delighted that this horrendous system is gone and they can finally expand our numbers. Champion System is definitely better than Veteran Ranks. However whether Champion System is good alternate remains a secret. Some state that the CP system isn't the best either because it creates balancing problems, but it does make it feel more rewarding.
