[Auckland, 20/4/2017] -- VidaSpace, a New Zealand interior design company providing innovative interior finishes, releases their FIREPLANK Shou Sugi Ban collection. These designer wood finishes are ideal for use as wall cladding and with other surfaces.

The company provides high quality timber materials in a range of colours and styles. Their Shou Sugi Ban collection is inspired by a centuries old Japanese technique of charring wood.

Exquisite Wood Designs

VidaSpace’s current FIREPLANK collection features five unique finishes, each one inspired by the natural magnificence of the world’s volcanoes. Shou Sugi Ban is made by expert craftsmen skilled in finishing wood ‘refined by fire’.

Each FIREPLANK features high quality timber:

Pinatubo

Pinatubo features charred cypress, with deep red tones and smooth, blackened wood grain. It is named after the Philippine volcano Mount Pinatubo, found in the southern part of Luzon.

This FIREPLANK is a character grade timber, featuring large knots and some cracks along the growth ring. One face is burnt and sealed with hard wax oil. It is ideal for interior cladding applications.

Mayon

FIREPLANK Shou Sugi Ban Mayon is a cool grey, charred wood, made of cypress. It features smooth knotting and blackened wood grain, with hints of sandy brown. Mayon is a character grade wood, burnt and sealed with hard wax oil.

Mayon is named after another Philippine volcano, found in the Bicol region of Luzon. It is famous for its symmetrical, gently sloping cone silhouette.

Vesuvius

FIREPLANK Vesuvius is another charred cypress timber. Burnt and sealed on one face with hard wax oil, it features a warm brown colour with golden undertones and blackened whorls.

Vesuvius is named after an Italian volcano, most remembered for destroying the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. FIREPLANK Vesuvius uses character grade wood.

Krakatoa

Krakatoa has a smooth, elegant finish. Completely charred and blackened using character grade cypress wood, Krakatoa is a deep, slate grey with distinct whorls on the surface.

It is named after the Indonesian volcanic island situated between Java and Sumatra. Krakatoa is ideal for use in interior cladding.

St. Helens

FIREPLANK Shou Sugi Ban St Helens is made of charred wood cypress, and is the most distinguished finish of the Shou Sugi Ban collection. Featuring deep, blackened wood with distinctive cracks on the surface, St Helens almost resembles charcoal.

Named after Mount St Helens in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, it is one of the most destructive recorded eruptions in history. The FIREPLANK St Helens emulates this with its deeply charred wood, sealed with hard wax oil.

VidaSpace provides a range of innovative wood finishes, as exemplified by their Shou Sugi Ban collection. They provide free samples to clients.
