If you are into research field, you already know how difficult it is for you to find the right antibody or a custom antibody production unit. The ideal way is to have an antibody that detects your protein with enough sensitivity in all the applications. These will include all the applications in which you, as a researcher, intend to use the model system. However, the same process is never followed. As for some proteins, there are a limited number of antibodies available. Such an issue can arise when you are studying a protein that is not well characterized and you are working with tissues or any such model systems that are not commonly used. The issue escalates when there is a wide range of antibody manufacturers and even higher number of companies that are distributing other companies’ antibodies.
The following are some ways in which you can approach such a problem and make your antibody selection process easier.

First, consider the target of interest: The first step is to learn about your target of interest. This means that you will have to look through the genomic databases to know more about the sheep anti-histone III. Collect as much information as you can, like the alternative names for your protein or your genes. Also, when looking for antibodies, it is better to search for both the gene and their protein names along with synonyms, if any.

Applications or species you want to use it against: The protein of interest determines the type of antibody you use. Also, to narrow down the search, filter the antibodies with the species you want to work with. Take into consideration the type of host in which the antibody is raised. Keep an eye on the experimental setup. Study the advantages and disadvantages of the monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies.

The publications and reviews: This will involve investigating any published references or reviews about the antibodies you are interested in. Consider questions like, do other researches find the antibodies reliable? Or which applications and species have the antibodies been used in? etc.
