Standardization of stat allocation (in part because of the better design of class and knowing the needs of characters) has destroyed the capacity to create memorable objects through design for stats. Now all the memorable items we talk about items are memorable because of factors that bypass the system of budgeting for stats: procs, on-use abilities, high budget exceptions (War Glaives), and honorable mentions to speed of weapons which still allows them to create items superior in terms of quality and without budgeting it.
Vanilla's vanilla characters didn't like their Tier Gear as it wasn't well-itemized or did not match their specs (feral Druid DPS warlord, for instance,). In my opinion, all gear from tiers in vanilla is at least decent, or even bis. So , overall, I believe there's less waiting to be decently properly geared.
There are 5 upgrades to Mc's feral tank and some were extremely sought-after (accuria, agi cloakoff rag). In addition to a few pieces that could be used in the fire resistance tanks, the tier gear was not effective. Other items that fell (heavy iron ring in dark brown, fireguard shoulders) were for sale since nobody else was interested so it wasn't that exciting.
