Heat Recovery Ventilation Systems to Improve Household Energy Efficiency

Energy efficient homes are a vast improvement on traditional home designs by providing a consistent internal temperature for sustained comfort levels. Homes are now designed to limit the exchange of air from inside the house to the outside, reducing air-drafts which provides huge improvements in temperature control, but consequently reduces the availability of fresh air within the building.

The solution to providing a regular flow of fresh air into the building at consistent temperatures is to install a Heat Recovery Ventilator system.

To improve airflow in and out of the building, fresh outside air is ducted into the home through a Heat Recovery Ventilator unit that transfers the controlled temperature of the internal air to the incoming external air. The temperature of the external air takes on the heat of the stale internal air before the stale air is exhausted out of the house.

During the colder months, heat is transferred from the warm indoor exhaust air into the cold outdoor supply air inside the HRV heat exchanger. The HRV heat exchanger not only transfers this heat, but transfers some of the moisture in the more humid exhaust air into the less humid supply air. This heat/energy transfer means that your home heating system uses less when compared to any other form of ventilation.

Homevent Pty Ltd is an Australian domestic ventilation company that specialises in Heat Recovery Ventilation. They provide a healthy living environment for homes in Australia.
