The Harish Jagtani Foundation, a humanitarian organization founded in 2016 by Indian philanthropist Harish Jagtani, is making a powerful impact in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). A recent and significant project led by the Foundation is the Jaipur Foot campaign, a prosthetic limb initiative in collaboration with the BMVSS team from Jaipur, India. The Jaipur Foot, a cost-effective, rubber-based prosthetic, offers people who have lost their limbs a chance to regain mobility and independence. From December 1, 2023, to January 30, 2024, the Foundation set up a camp in Kinshasa where over 575 amputees were fitted with new limbs—completely free of charge.

This initiative was not just about providing prosthetics but also about offering practical support. The Foundation ensured that each person received training on how to use their new limb, empowering them to go back to their daily lives with dignity. For the individuals who benefited, it was a life-changing experience. Many of them had been living with the physical and emotional burden of disability, and now they could walk, work, and participate in their communities once again.

The Foundation also went the extra mile by providing free meals and transportation for those attending the camp, most of whom came from far-flung and impoverished regions. This gesture highlighted the Foundation's deep commitment to improving the lives of the underprivileged and ensuring that no one was left behind in this life-changing initiative.

The work of the Harish Jagtani Foundation doesn't stop with the Jaipur Foot campaign. In 2023, the Foundation carried out over 100 successful cataract and glaucoma surgeries as part of its DON DE LA VISION (Gift of Vision) program, helping individuals regain their sight and transform their futures. Additionally, the Foundation is working with local health authorities to provide free renal dialysis services, addressing a critical need in the country where many people suffer and die due to lack of access to such treatments.

Harish Jagtani, the driving force behind these initiatives, shared his vision: "Through our work, we want to give voice to the people of Congo who are often forgotten. We aim to improve their lives by providing healthcare and support so they can have a better, brighter future."

In line with this vision, the Foundation is opening a permanent health camp in Kinshasa on June 30, 2024. This camp will focus on providing Jaipur Foot prosthetics, conducting anti-malaria campaigns, offering kidney dialysis, and continuing the DON DE LA VISION eye surgeries. By establishing a permanent presence in Congo, the Foundation aims to expand its reach and continue making a lasting difference in the lives of the Congolese people.

Harish Jagtani also credits much of his success to the unwavering support of his family, particularly his mother, Neeta Jagtani, and his wife, Sunita "Neha" Jagtani. Their deep commitment to the cause has been a source of inspiration. During the pandemic, Neeta and Sunita played a key role in distributing thousands of PPE kits and food packets to those in need, further proving their dedication to humanitarian work.
