Does your work involve sitting in front of a computer all day? Eye strain is a common problem today because of our work.

It involves spending so much time in front of a computer. Compounded with the constant use of cellphones, eye strain can happen easily and can then lead to vision decline.

You can counteract this problem by employing the right work habits. We can’t do anything about using a computer for extended periods of time but we can do something about our work habits. That said, here are the things that you can do to prevent eye strain:

1. Work in a well-lit space.

Working in a dark space can strain the eyes even more, especially since the only light source is from your computer. If you work from home, position your work table near the windows so you can get the best natural lighting during the day. At night, make sure you also have ample light. Switch to brighter lighting so that you can work comfortably.

2. Use anti-glare eyeglasses.

There are many anti-glare eyeglasses that you can buy today. They help protect the eyes from the intense glare of the computer, so you can work for longer hours without experiencing eye strain.

3. Give your eyes a break every 30 minutes.

Make sure you give your eyes a break. Don’t work for extended periods of time without giving your eyes a rest. Try closing your eyes for a few minutes or doing something else. You can look at a green object. Green is soothing to the eyes.

4. Do eye exercises every morning and at night.

It also helps to perform eye exercises. Do this every morning and every night. Even 15 minutes of eye exercise can already go a long way when it comes to easing up eye strain. This can also help strengthen the eye muscles, which can prevent early aging.

5. Look at something far.

One of the things that you can do to reduce eye strain is to look at something far away. Go look out the window and check out the trees from a distance. That will train your eyes not to just look at something in front of you, which can help loosen up those tired eye muscles.
