Costa Mesa, Calif. – Innovative Results Gym (IR) will host the 2015 California Open Kettlebell Championship – organized by the Orange Kettlebell Club – on the weekend of February 28th and March 1st. Over 200 lifters from the U.S. and abroad are expected to participate in this annual event. IR Co-Owner and Head Coach Aaron Guyett has been training a dedicated team of local residents in preparation for this highly anticipated meet.

For the past two years, 32-year-old Long Beach resident Harrel Carman has been competing in kettlebell (girevoy) sport. Unlike his past experience as a baseball and football athlete, Carman says that competing in kettlebell sport is “a lot more mentally engaging. In traditional sports and competition, you can take mental and physical breaks, even though you’re playing for a longer amount of time. [With girevoy], you have to be extremely focused in a compact amount of time.” Carman is going for his fifth straight win.

Thirty-seven-year-old Irvine private school teacher Margaret Fajardo started to train for the sport in May of 2015. She’s even documented her progress as a newbie lifter on her blog, belleofthebell.com. While she does have a set of numbers that she has to hit, she is looking forward to her first time on the platform as a Long Cycle competitor: “I just want to make it to the 10 minutes and enjoy being in the presence of so many experienced lifters.”

Other IR team members will also compete in Jerk, Snatch, and Biathlon. Though Coach Guyett set the American Record in Biathlon in 2014, he will be making his first showing in Long Cycle for this year’s competition.
