National Alpine Skiing Competition 2019 Go with the Snow!

The National level competition will see a participation of multiple State sports team, wherein they can enter specific categories of ‘Nordic Skiing’, ‘Cross-Country Skiing’, ‘Alpine Skiing Super-G’ and ‘Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom’
 
Dehradun, 20th February, 2019: Celebrating the essence of the snow, the National Alpine Skiing Competition will be organized by Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board in Auli from 26th to 28th February, 2019 with the consent of Indian Olympic Association. The National level competition will see a participation of multiple State sports team, wherein they can enter specific categories of ‘Nordic Skiing’, ‘Cross-Country Skiing’, ‘Alpine Skiing Super-G’ and ‘Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom’, which will be present in both male and female groups.
Shri Satpal Maharaj, Hon’ble Tourism Minister of Uttarakhand said, “I am delighted to express my hope and excitement for Auli as a tourist destination and with this event, promoting Winter Snow Sports, that expression is even more so; this will give the city a new identity in the national scenario as an ideal destination for winter sports. In order to organize adventure sports, there are ideal conditions in Uttarakhand and such activities are being organized by the tourism department for the purpose of developing a state-of-the-art service. Moreover this will surely increase the momentum of local culture, tourism and employment.
Shri Dilip Jawalkar, IAS, Secretary Tourism shared his views, “The Skiing Competition to be held in Auli is being hosted by Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board in association with Indian Olympic Association, Uttaranchal Olympic Association and Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam. The intention of the tourism department is to promote the local environment and biodiversity without hurting the enthusiasm for adventure sports. I sincerely hope that the sports men and women will feel comfortable given the hospitality of the local community and we aim to take that relationship forward.
To make this event a highlight and to maintain the terrain, the Board had started the project of laying artificial ice in Auli a few months prior. This process was carried out during the nightfall, when the temperature is known to drop below zero degree celcius. The maintenance of the snow machines was taken care by France’s flagship Company, POMA.
