2023 saw over forty-two thousand people die due to gun violence across the United States. California also experienced firearm deaths in the past year with mass shootings, suicides, homicides, and accidental deaths that involve all races, genders, and ages. Senate Bill 2, was signed in September last year to control gun measures. A Federal appeals court allowed the judge's ruling to ban the state from enforcing this law on January 6th, 2024.

The Assembly Bill 28 was approved in September 2023 and will take effect on July 1st. This established an excise tax on licensed firearm dealers, manufacturers, and ammunition vendors, funding programs that focus on the harm and causes of gun violence in the country today.

Further new gun laws that are increasing the demand for gun room cabinets in 2024, included Assembly Bill 1587 which requires all financial institutions that facilitate debit and credit card transactions to create a merchant category code for firearm merchants. Financial Institutions are required to meet this law by no later than July 1st.
