Removing a tap seat that has eroded due to sediment can be a time-consuming process. However, with a few hand tools and some patience, you can remove the tap seat and replace it with a new one. The tap seat threads into the tap body like a screw. Take your time removing the tap seat to avoid damaging the thread in the tap body.
Instructions
1、Clean the area around the tap seat with a clean cloth. Look inside the basin tap seat and make sure it is removable. Removable taps seats have a square or hexagon in the bottom of the seat for the seat wrench to fit. Some seats will have a slot that fits the blade of a flat-head screwdriver.
2、Insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver into what is remaining of the hole in the bottom of the seat. Use a screwdriver that is slightly larger than the hole and carefully tap the screwdriver handle with a hammer to snug the blade to the tap seat.
3、Secure a pair of vise grips around the shaft of the screwdriver. Hold the screwdriver firmly into the tap seat and turn the screwdriver counterclockwise, using the vise grips.
4、Release the downward pressure once the tap seat loosens from the tap. Continue turning the tap seat until it is completely out of the tap.
