As one of the leading centres of photography instruction in the UK, the well-known London Institute of Photography has been bringing their courses to many students, some of whom attend because they want to receive instruction with regard to their hobby whereas others attend one or more of the school’s courses to advance their interest in photography for professional reasons.
One of the modules to attract many students concerns the course they have available for those interested in street and documentary photography. In this regard the institute’s Director Holger Pooten was quoted recently, “The flexibility in terms of how we structure our courses suits many students, as it allows them different options, such as full or part time attendance.
“This is also true for our popular documentary course: you can either take it as a course from a Monday to Thursday as a day time course, or over 2 weekends. Bookings are coming in and we have every reason to believe that the 2nd half of 2018 will be another busy time.
“Past students often recommend us for the quality of our courses and the advantage it gives them over many others. There are still a few places left for the coming courses, so please book yours if the documentary course is what interests you.”
To be able to attend this course does require previous knowledge: you will need to have a good understanding of Beginners Photography and the Intermediary Photography Course since those two form, to a large extent, the basis upon which the documentary course builds to prepare students with regard to what the subject entails.
In addition to the Beginners and Intermediary Course students will need a good digital camera such as a DSLR or Mirrorless to attend.
The course material will aid the student’s understanding of what documenting situations and scenes is about. The student will be taught how to interpret scenes so that they are able to tell their own story through the images they create, also to analyse their images from various perspectives so that they can incorporate these into their own style and message.
At the heart of this all is the student’s creativity, which the teachers encourage throughout. And of course you are taught the editing skills to be able to produce a coherent piece.
