Successful shutdowns, turnarounds and outages require the disciplined application of proven processes and inter departmental partnerships. It is important for departments that are influenced and impacted by the processes to understand them. To delve in depth about a unique problem that Oil, Gas and Power plants face when it comes to managing the work and costs associated with Shutdowns, Turnarounds and Outages projects the 4th Annual Plant Shutdown & Turnaround Forum commenced on 27th October 2014 at Crowne Plaza Doha – The Business Park, Doha, Qatar. The forum is held under the esteemed patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy & Industry and Chairman & MD of Qatar Petroleum.
Representatives from Petrotechnics, Andy Bartlett, QHSE Consultant and Andrew Mudie, Technical Product Manager conducted the first workshop on day one of the forum. The workshop focused on an evolutionary advancement of how organizations integrate people, business process and technology across their operations. This practice can harness safety and productivity as complimentary forces and unlock a tangible and practical path to operational excellence. Andy Hunt, Principal Consultant from The Woodhouse Partnership, UK lead the second workshop for the day emphasizing on how to align multi-cycle asset critical tasks to the correct shutdown and extend this to develop a long term shutdown strategy.
Second day i.e. on 28th October, starting the forum the attendees welcomed a speech from the conference chair Alan Warmack, International Plant Shutdown and Turnaround expert, U.S.A. Following this the day progressed by meeting the technology innovators who had 5 minutes to introduce the company and brief the audience about their services and technologies. Eng. Eid Mubarak Al- Muhannadi, Operations Manager, Gas Operations from Qatar Petroleum delivered the inaugural address after the short introductory session.
Dr. Naji Abi- Aad, COO from Petroleb, Lebanon presented the first presentation on practical management for plant shutdown & turnaround providing the audience with an overview of the technologies and strategies for managing shutdowns and turnarounds. Post luncheon Ijaz Ul Karim Rao, Director Asset Integrity Service representing VELOSI Asset Integrity Limited, UAE discussed a case study on reliability and maintenance effectiveness implementation in SAP-PM by using RCM approach. Decision makers from Qatar Petroleum and Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu will highlight on some path breaking technologies that are driving the complete cycle of plant shutdowns and turnarounds towards safety and efficiency. Concluding the day with a panel discussion on strategies for maximizing up-time & minimizing downtime.
Second which is the final day of the event, key representatives from Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu (Marafiq), Zakum Development Company (ZADCO), National Mechanical Engineering Services LLC, Oman and others will highlight some path breaking technologies that are driving the complete cycle of plant shutdowns and turnarounds towards safety and efficiency. Thoughtfully designed to encourage organizations to look outside of their company and industry, Plant Shutdown and Turnaround Forum is a gathering where maintenance, reliability and shutdown professionals will engage in important conversations, find answers to common challenges and inspire one another to explore future opportunities.
