Fleming Gulf Conference further broadens and explores Occupation Health & Safety issues in GCC.

OHS conference generated discussion & debate, increased knowledge and awareness of various work related issued in the region
 
Themed as 'Prevention Through Protection', the 3rd Annual Middle East OHS Strategy Summit commenced on 7th April 2014. The summit was held at Le Meridian Al Khobar, KSA. Supported by Institution of Occupational Safety & Health, Institute of Safety & Health Magazine & World Safety Organisation the summit explored OHS issues and latest technological advancement for prevention of work related health hazards in the region.

Keith Scott, Group Head-Health, Safety & Security from Almarai chaired the summit on day one and delivered the opening remarks. Attendees also witnessed speakers from Health Ministers Council for Cooperation Council, 3M, Saudi Aramco and International Society of Fall Protection. Various operational challenges in implementing process safety, latest prevention approaches while working at heights were addressed at the summit. A presentation by Dr. Jose Cantavella Cabedo from Chemsafe on different ways to asses, manage and communicate risks at work place was one of the current issues appreciated by the delegates. Panelists Ahmed Ajabnoor, MA’ADEN, Sergey Peresypkin, Baker Hughes and Hesham Alawi, ALBA discussed the principles of Behavioural-Based Safety and best practices in avoiding unintentional injury.

Second day of the summit heard from Dr. Ahmad Al Shatti, Director of Occupational Health from Ministry of Health-Kuwait elaborating on how to deal with disability issues in workplace. Moving forward the attendees witnessed an informative session on Corporate Social Responsibility & Happy Program, followed by an interactive panel session on analysing and enhancing positive psychology amongst employees. This session was moderated by Dr. Syed Z. Hussaini, RasGas, Essam Al-Kahloot, Kuwait Oil Company, Dr. AbdelLatif Elmor, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation & Keith Scott, Almarai.

Expressing their view about the 3rd Annual Middle East OHS Strategy Summit an attendee stated, "The whole session over two days was very informative for various level of management in variety of fields". Another delegate commented, "All subjects discussed were very useful & can be adopted or used as a model to any business involving construction in refinery and petrochem". The summit concluded with a workshop on 3rd day by Andrew Dingee from Afterburner and Dr. Adel Mahmoud Zakaria from King Abdulaziz University. They conducted the workshop on factors & conditions affecting human performance and fundamentals of industrial hygiene respectively.
