Fleming Gulf has announced the first of it's kind conference on health and safety in mining tailored to specific occupational risks faced by the mining community of Central Asia.

Moscow will host the inaugural Central Asia Health and Safety Forum in Mining, to address critical issues related to occupational health and safety in the region. Scheduled on 2-3 September 2014, the conference will attract high caliber experts in the field, to jointly debate on best practices and advanced technologies to prevent accidents, injury and ailments amongst mine workers.

The mining industry in Central Asia is flourishing with abundant mineral deposits and heavy investments in Russia, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia. As mining continues to progress under remote environments and harsh conditions, safety of mine workers has gained priority; not only to reduce accident rates and injury but also to improve productivity and economic performance.

For the past three years Fleming Gulf has been organizing mine health and safety conferences on a global scale, with editions in the United Kingdom, Brazil and South Africa. 2014 will see a parallel conference tailored specifically for the Central Asian markets featuring knowledge rendering presentations, end user case studies, ample peer-to-peer networking and solution provider insights.

The forum sheds a spotlight on some of the major occupational hazards faced by mine workers such as ageing infrastructure, exposure to hazardous materials, dust, noise and chemical substances, road trauma, alcohol and drug abuse, HIV, harsh climatic conditions, and fatigue. Additionally, it will be a platform to promote latest safety and incident prevention technologies, strategies to manage crisis, improve legal framework related to occupational safety and create a safety culture of world class standards.

The agenda has been shaped with insights and feedback from a regional steering committee comprising of senior level HSE professionals from JCS “Uralkali“, Nordgold, Kinross Gold – Russia, ENRC Kazakhstan, Polyusgold Mining Company, Mineral Industry Safety & Health Centre, University of Queensland and Karaganda State Medical University, Kazaksthan.

“Since 2011, our conferences on mine health and safety have engaged distinguished personnel associated with mine safety around the globe. We are excited to bring the same platform to Central Asia this year to derive effective strategies and technical solutions, considering the need of the industry”, commented Senior Conference Producer, Fleming Gulf – Pooja Fotedar.
