A business proposal must never be mistaken for a business plan. The former addresses the concern and proposes a solution whereas the latter is how you are going to execute the plan and is a different document altogether.

Enough has been talked about writing business proposals, but unless you address the key points, a tender proposal goes unnoticed. To find the right answers, we had a word with Mr Tim Entwisle, the Director of Madrigal Communications, who has been writing business proposals for private and public sectors for over a decade.

In the wake of the challenges most businesses face while writing a business proposal, Tim gave us a couple of insider tips on how to develop a compelling pitch that gets you noticed.

To begin with, understand your client's requirements from their perspective. Perspective is important because unless you look at the problem the way your client does, chances are you will miss out on the areas that need prior attending to.

When experts write a business proposal, formatting is done in order to let readers go over the document quickly. This is an easy way to save time and improve your chances of being shortlisted.

Never base your business proposal on the price point. While pricing is one of the deciding factors in a deal, it can never trump quality and credibility. If your business is capable of delivering results to optimum standards, you must quote the price you deserve.

In the end, Tim advised keeping the language simple and strictly professional. Proofread the document twice or get a second pair of eyes to look at it. And if you are too busy to take care of all this, hiring a professional is always the best way around it.
