How to find the cause
If you have more than one iOS device and at least two Lightning cables, you should be able to figure out what's causing the issue.

1. Defective iOS device
Get the lint out of the iPhone's charging port. First, change the device. For example, if you tried to connect your iPhone and experience the connection and disconnection problem, take your iPad or another iPhone and connect it. If the problem persists, it means that the problem is not related to the iOS device, and you can move it to Turn it on and try another Lightning cable to see if the connector is faulty.

On the other hand, if the problem does not manifest itself with a second iOS device, the initial smartphone has a faulty Lightning port. In this situation, try cleaning the dock with a dry toothbrush and toothpick to ensure no lint prevents your iPhone from connecting correctly.

2. Defective Lightning cable
Next, change the lightning wire and see if it works. If you don't have a secondary one, borrow it from a friend. If the second cable works, the problem is easily fixed by purchasing a new Lightning cable.

3. Defective Mac Lightning port
We have yet to locate any instances of Macs delivering with a damaged USB port. Thus this third and final hardware cause is the most unlikely. You may, however, connect the same iPhone / iPad to another Mac using the same Lightning cable. If this solves the problem, the issue is with your Mac. This does not, however, imply that the issue is hardware-related. It could potentially be a software issue, and the solutions are listed below.
