As somebody who had to quit playing classic due to insufficient time, it has its own flaws, since it's a very old sport at this point, but it did a lot right too. It didn't have a ton of throwaway pieces. Everything in classic has been essentially required, so as to function somewhere else in classic. I haven't seen a game with systems that integrated since then.
Meanwhile, I have not gotten any new expansions because legion. Why? Because the game keeps chugging along, but I don't feel like it's improved. I didn't even like Legion that much. It was nice, but I was not excited. Hilariously, I loved MoP, because I loved the side stuff (but not a great deal of the dailies).
I don't believe any expansion since MOP really improved on the game. It's basically the exact same game it's been for quite a while, but with a hard to swallow story (I kind of lost track of exactly what happened after MoP,) fresh zones, and a few surface level material switched around and lost after the previous expansion. If anything, it keeps gaining difficulties and plot holes.
No, Particularly when there are lots of fantastic PC games which aren't only cheaper, but higher quality, have a lot of gameplay , and have an entire experience included with the 1 time cost? I don't believe the MMO genre is dead, but I can think about a good deal of games that I'd rather play than WoW.
I feel you. I get real nostalgic for some wow but read up on the current xpac and choose against it. I quested a bit from the xpac afterwards but got pissed at times questing zones (I can not play with my friend now since hes 1 quest ahead wut? Sometimes I feel like I should have sold my account at peak cata times where I had like 5 max level characters with heroic tape equipment bits...
