South London Shakedown will shake up the London House scene with monthly parties

London, UK; 12 November 2019 - A new monthly club night in South London looks set to rejuvenate the London house music scene, reminding revelers of the glorious roots and the golden era of party culture.

For the next 12 months, South London Shakedown will take over the Hatch Club in New Cross for a series of themed parties, featuring legendary and upcoming house DJ’s, kicking off this November with a tribute to South London culture.

The promoters of South London Shakedown aim to create a monthly party that embodies the spirit and ethos of positivity in house music and showcase the best of the genre - guaranteed to keep the dancefloor rocking, and the party vibe alive until 5am.

While other electronic music scenes have swelled in popularity in recent years, regular house music club nights have dwindled, but the organisers of South London Shakedown want to change all that with a house music monthly that allows new and old house music lovers to get firmly back in the groove.

Event spokesperson and resident DJ, Debs SoulDiva says, "South London Shakedown will celebrate house music, its DJs and producers - whether they're from London, the UK, or beyond - and pay homage to the party culture introduced to the UK by people from the Caribbean and Africa. Our parties will bring together all ages, genders, races, social classes – a highly inclusive vibe, embodying what house music is all about.”

There couldn’t be a better home for this monthly gathering. The Hatch, a basement club, is set in the ethnically diverse and vibrant New Cross area, and is run by the former owners of the iconic Club Colosseum in Vauxhall.

“We are excited to bring this new monthly house music event to New Cross,” says Hatch Club owner Lily Sam. “We would love to see the locals and students from Goldsmiths coming down to experience house music at its best. We’ve brought the Colosseum’s legendary sound system with us, and we can’t wait to see happy, party-people rocking the dancefloor each month.”

South London is a key area for the city’s underground house music scene and these events will celebrate and raise the profile of the area’s DJs, producers and performing artists, as well as providing a platform for young up-and-coming house DJs.

South London Shakedown will be literally rolling out the red carpet for the launch on Saturday 23 November with underground house heroes including Sy Sez and Booker T, both of whom currently have shows on South London radio station Mi-Soul, headlining the event.

Sy Sez has been a resident at Soul Heaven, Ministry of Sound, Stereo Sushi and is now an established international DJ, producer, radio host and A&R manager for Soul Heaven and Defected Records.

“South London Shakedown is all about like-minded people coming together for what we love. It’s something brand new and fresh so we all start together at the foundation and the beginning of a promising journey,” he says.

Another heavy house hitter taking part in the event is Booker T, who grew up in South London.
“I love being part of such an important event for London and our club scene. I first played at this venue back in the ‘80s. Now, over 30 years later, I’m back at the same venue - now known as The Hatch Club – starting a whole new movement with the South London Shakedown.”

Organisers are also excited to announce that they have secured legendary house maestro Martin Iveson aka Atjazz to kick off the first part of the 2020 series in February. Atjazz built a name over the last two decades with music from deep house to broken-beat and is known for being behind the music in the Lara Croft – Tomb Raider Playstation games series. Most recently he won ‘Best International Producer’ at the Dance Music Awards, South Africa.

Debs SoulDiva, a familiar face on the London house scene, and co-owner of London-based radio station HouseFM.net which is partnering with South London Shakedown, aims to get house-lovers excited for the city’s hottest new house events, and has one rule for all party-goers: “Dress up, or dress down – just come to Shakedown!”

Tickets for South London Shakedown are £15 and are available on the website. Tickets include access to two bars with affordable drinks options and one mammoth dancefloor which will be pumping until 5am.
