6th Waste Management Middle East Forum Inaugurated by Head of Waste Treatment, Dubai Municipality.

An effort to achieve excellence through integrated and effective sustainable waste management practices
 
5th October, 2015, Dubai, U.A.E :Waste management has constantly been a priority for municipal bodies. From ensuring that the waste management and public cleaning service infrastructure is at par with the best on offer, to searching of new technologies and system specifications adopted in different countries for managing waste, the municipal body has put in constant efforts to reduce the level of waste in the city.

Supported by the Dubai Municipality, the 6th Annual Waste Management Middle East Forum is taking place between the 5 – 6 October, 2015 and has been planned in accordance with the vision of the Dubai Municipality. The 6th edition witnessed the inauguration by Mr. Naji Al Radhi, Head of Waste Treatment, Dubai Municipality.

Trying to achieve excellence through integrated and effective sustainable waste management practices, day one of the forum today was inaugurated by the head of waste treatment, DM, followed by the opening remarks of chairman, Dr. Udayan Banerji, Tadweer – Center for Waste Management Abu Dhabi. A panel discussion moderated by the chairman, Dr. Banerji will discuss the strategies for building an effective waste management framework.

Sharing Dubai Municipality's experience in developing waste management sustainability in the Emirate of Dubai, Imad Juma Mohammed, Dubai Municipality, Head of Technical Support and Studies Section - Waste Management Department will address the delegates speaking about the past challenges, current achievements, initiatives and future perspectives on making Dubai one of the most sustainable cities in the world. Trying to accelerate waste reduction in the region, Dubai is in line to achieve its 98% waste diversion goals by 2030.

Technology plays a major role in the future of managing waste. The forum will have leading service providers discussing the next generation of Waste to Energy technology and world wide waste management and metal recycling technologies. Sharing their experience in proactive measures for effective waste management, Khalid Aqel, Senior Environment Engineer - Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Ltd GASCO will speak on emission and waste prevention approaches at GASCO.

Day two of the forum will see sessions on upcoming developments in the Waste to Energy sector and developing a long term perspective towards recycling. Other than the local bodies, the forum will also feature international leading organisations sharing their strategies and experiences. Anja Schwetje from Federal Environment Agency, Germany will deliver a presentation on organic waste technology for onsite waste management. Speaking about the upcoming metal recovery technologies, Deon Earle from Qatar Aluminium will compare between different waste management technologies.

Apart from these, the forum will also feature sessions by experts representing leading organisations such as Dubai Natural Gas Co (DUGAS), Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG , Bahrain Petroleum Company(BAPCO), Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company Ltd. and Emirates Green Building to name a few. Day two of the forum will conclude with a panel discussion on fostering a recycle friendly atmosphere.

This year, the event sees support from many international leading solution and services providers. These include DOWA Ecosystems, Bekon, B & W Volund, CNIM, Ferrostaal, Risal, Blackmore and Sands and CI Agent Solutions. Visiting partners are Waste Management, Al Dhafra Recycling, Neon Avishkar, Doosan, Maaden Aluminium, FCC and Kone Cranes. Local associations such as Middle East Facilities Management Association (MEFMA) and Emirates Green Building Association also supported the event, as well as the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
