Leading industry professionals to meet and discuss waste management strategies and technologies

The Middle East countries are known for their rapid industrial growth, urbanization and changing lifestyles, which is accelerating the generation rate of waste every year in huge numbers. According to reports, Middle East countries generate more than 150 million tons of gross urban waste annually. Countries like Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and Oman have a very high rate of per capita waste generation and also rank in the top-ten countries worldwide in terms of per capita solid waste generation.

The growing population and the ever increasing economic activities in the Middle East region are some of the major factors resulting to a rapid growth in waste generation. Major challenges faced by government bodies in managing waste include lack of awareness and knowledge in sustainable practices among people and adoption and use of costly methods of waste management system. Other issues like following environmental guidelines and policies by companies and ineffective enforcement of regulations by government authorities are also some of the factors leading to the increased concern for waste management authorities.

Recycling, along with exploring innovative and sustainable ways, without doubt are essential for managing waste. Government authorities play an important role in creating an effective waste management framework wherein there are strict guidelines to be followed by industries when it comes to their production output and disposal of wastes.

Supported by the Dubai Municipality, the 6th Annual Waste Management Middle East Forum will take place on 5th – 6th of October 2015 in Dubai, U.A.E. The event, also supported by the Middle East Facilities Management Association (MEFMA), will create a platform for studying and updating the regional waste and environment professionals on various new technologies and system specifications adopted in different countries and gulf regions, covering all aspects of waste such as industrial, energy, construction and municipal waste.

The forum will feature experts sharing their knowledge on topics like e-waste management and understanding the economics of waste conversion. Topics such as proactive measures for effective waste treatment, upcoming developments in the 'waste to energy' sector and developing a long term perspective towards recycling will be addressed.

The 4th Annual Waste Management Middle East Forum was organized under the support of the Dubai Municipality & under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water UAE. Supported by IOSH and WSO, the forum featured 20 expert presentations from leading industry professionals across the GCC and internationally.
