The league first unintentionally decides to alter an existing rule in the name of "improving player safety." When it explodes up in their face and they have to scramble at speed to "fix" something which didn't require fixing initially.

The pattern repeats due to the fact that many of Madden NFL 23's attempts to "improve player safety" seem to be more about publicity more than anything else. The league has responded to serious injuries to their most popular players, and they've instituted the rule changes to try to convince the public that they'll never allow the same situation to take place again.

If players in Madden NFL 23 really wanted to ensure safety for players, why would they move quickly to make changes to altering the helmet rule during the preseason when players coaches and fans had all expressed their displeasure?

And yet that's exactly what Madden NFL 23 played when it implemented changing the lowering helmet-rules in the preseason.

This rule change was a unintentional reaction of Steeler linebacker Ryan Schazier's spinal injury sustained during a game in which Shazier's head was lowered before contact during a tackle attempt, and was not concern for safety of the player initially. My prayers are with Shazier as recovering however, one incident or injury shouldn't trigger the need for a rule change, particularly one that's not as well planned as that lowering the helmet rule.
