A Nicholson Clinic for Weight Loss Surgery patient reflects on life after surgery.

Plano, TX, June 17, 2017 – People who struggle with obesity and its associated negative impacts often seek out bariatric surgery as an option to help them gain and maintain control over their weight, health and their lives. Some people, however, are a little more reluctant than others to even consider the benefits weight loss surgery may hold for them. When Tonyah first walked into the Nicholson Clinic for Weight Loss Surgery, she fell into the latter category. Today, her story is one that inspires others to take action to lose weight and keep it off.

“I don’t like hospitals and hate to go under, so I had been fighting my doctor for about a year,” explainsTonyah. Considered a “triple threat” by her doctor, Tonyah realized that high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure were taking a toll on her body. “Once I got it in my head that I could die due to my health, I went to see Dr. Nicholson.”

With kidney damage already evident from her type 2 diabetes, it was determined the sleeve gastrectomy was the best choice to help Tonyah address obesity. This procedure calls for the surgical reshaping of the stomach into a smaller, banana-shaped pouch. It also has an impact on Ghrelin, the “hunger hormone,” so it promotes weight loss in two ways.

Dr. Nicholson and the staff at the Nicholson Clinic worked closely with Tonyah to help her prepare for surgery and what to expect afterwards. “He (Dr. Nicholson) and his staff were great and my surgery went very well,” says Tonyah.

Down about 70 pounds from the procedure, Tonyah says she’s thrilled with the improvements in her life. Not only has she dropped to a size 12 from a 22, but her health has improved dramatically.

“My blood pressure and cholesterol are normal, and I’m off of the medicine,” she says. She’s also down from four medications to control her diabetes to just one. If her blood sugar results remain positive, that final medication may soon be taken out of her routine, too.

“I just want to thank Dr. Nicholson for this fresh start in my life with good health,” says Tonyah. “I’m very blessed to still be here after all the years of bad health I took my body through due to my weight.”

Helping people gain a whole new outlook on life while improving their health in the process is precisely what drives the team at the Nicholson Clinic.“There is no greater reward than watching people we care for enjoy success on their weight loss journeys,” says Dr. Nicholson.
