Nassau, Bahamas– Oceanside Treatment Center, a premier addiction recovery facility in Nassau, Bahamas, has released the findings of a 12-month longitudinal study evaluating the effectiveness of Ibogaine therapy in treating fentanyl addiction. The study, conducted throughout 2023, offers promising insights into long-term recovery outcomes associated with the use of this plant-derived treatment.
Study Overview
Led by Clinical Director and Research Coordinator Gina Honek, the study followed 40 individuals (30 men, 10 women) diagnosed with fentanyl addiction. Each participant received a medically supervised Ibogaine treatment, followed by a structured aftercare program consisting of weekly counseling sessions. Progress was monitored at 6-month and 12-month intervals to evaluate addiction status, health outcomes, and overall well-being.
Key Findings
At 6 months post-treatment, 80% (32 out of 40 participants) remained free from fentanyl addiction.
At 12 months, 72.5% (29 out of 40) maintained addiction-free status.
No significant adverse effects were reported during or after the Ibogaine treatments.
Implications for Addiction Treatment
“These results are encouraging,” said Gina Honek. “They indicate that Ibogaine, when integrated into a comprehensive treatment and aftercare program, may offer a viable path to long-term recovery from fentanyl addiction.”
While the study is observational in nature and lacks a control group, its findings add to a growing body of evidence suggesting that Ibogaine can play a role in interrupting addiction patterns and supporting sustained abstinence and alleviating 95-100% post acute withdrawals post treatment.
Study Limitations
The relatively small sample size limits the generalizability of findings.
The absence of a control group restricts direct comparisons and causal conclusions.
Conclusion
Despite its limitations, this study highlights the potential of Ibogaine-assisted therapy in the context of fentanyl addiction recovery. Oceanside Treatment Center remains committed to advancing evidence-based research and offering individualized care that addresses both the psychological and physiological dimensions of addiction.
