A new research says it has found evidence that the Ajwa date contains active elements useful in the prevention of diseases like cancer.

The research was carried out to discover the health benefits of Ajwa dates, which resulted in the finding that the date fruit has anti-inflammatory properties similar to commercially available drugs like ibuprofen and aspirin. So the next time you’re having a date, it’s not just for taste, it would be considered for healing.

The study found that the inhibition rate in Ajwa was equal to existing commercial anti-oxidant products available in the market. The research was published in the 61st issue of the US-based journal for agriculture and food chemistry.

Ajwa dates come in different grades. The grading system for dates is determined by the size, moistness, amount of flesh in the date and overall quality. The better the grade, the better the date and in turn the higher the cost of the date fruit.

Most people eat the Ajwa date for its spiritual and health benefits rather than leisure. Typically the recommended amount per day is 7 before you start your daily routine.

Unlike medjool date, the dark coloured Ajwa date is known for its softness, dryness and price. The next time you’re in the market looking for food for healing, try a few Ajwa dates instead of your common medjool date.
