The moving industry was not prepared for 2020 events with relocations being one of the sectors that found themselves hardest hit. The moving industry bounced back quickly with new trends and influences on why people chose to move.

With 2021 seeing a strengthening economy, the demand for relocations has increased. On average, an American will move around eleven times throughout their lives with millions having moved home since the start of the coronavirus pandemic last year with ten percent of Americans moving every year. Sixty percent will move during the summer months with three million people moving interstate.

The relocation industry is growing by approximately three percent with more than eight percent of these relocation companies employing more than one hundred employees. The states with the most growth over the past year includes Arizona, Colorado, and Idaho. Most relocations are moving out of city areas to the suburbs, especially those with children.

Six hundred and fifty thousand people using a professional relocation management service for their moves with more than a million choosing to do a DIY move, which increases stress. The most common relocations are those between the ages of eighteen and thirty-four with one to two children. Those who rent over buying tend to move more frequently.
