[Singapore, 22-03-2017] – The Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps or SAFVC helps volunteers have a clear grasp of the military service by providing engaging, realistic training. While the organisation tries to make the experience as close as possible to SAF’s military value and ethos, it also makes sure to maintain the safety of the volunteers throughout the training period.

Safe, Engaging, Realistic Training

The (SAFVC) designed their training guidelines around three premises: That the activities the volunteer will undertake throughout the duration of the training are safe; that the program is engaging; and that the organisation is a good steward of the volunteer, especially of their time. All volunteers will undergo Basic Training in a field camp, and they have the option to train over two weeks or over 10 Saturdays.

Through the Basic Training module, volunteers will learn basic soldiering knowledge and skills. Volunteers can benefit from learning how to use the Singapore Assault Rifle 21. To allow volunteers to familiarise themselves with a field environment, they will also undergo training for specific roles, ranging from security and naval operations to specialised areas such as nursing or psychology.

SAFVC opens more avenues for meaningful volunteer service by opening more roles to three services: Navy, Army, and Air Force. After volunteers undergo training, the organisation will assign specific roles based on their overall aptitude and medical fitness. Volunteers may assume roles as a Brigade Watchkeeper, C4 Expert, Auxiliary Security Trooper and Medical Trainer, among others.
