While solid wood flooring can be more expensive than some of the other options we have, the fact is that it is an investment that is completely worth it. There are very few things that can match the beauty of solid wood, especially when it comes to Oak and Mahogany. Regardless of the type of wood that we choose for our flooring parquetry or solid flooring we can be sure that it will enrich the beauty of our home.
While we’re used to seeing the more modern homes being designed with marble flooring or with laminate flooring, the fact is that solid timber flooring has remained the number one choice for people with taste. It is really not that hard to see why the best choice for our living and bedroom flooring is hardwood. The sad fact is that most laminate wood flooring isn’t even made out of wood, the main materials used being melamine resin and fiber board. There are some types of laminate that are made entirely out of wood chips and other byproducts, but it is really not that different than the classical laminate. While it is indeed cheaper to buy and install laminate flooring, the look and feel of it can hardly equal that of flooring parquetry and hardwood.
Although solid timber flooring seems to be the best choice because it is natural, we shouldn’t neglect some of the positive aspects of laminate wood flooring. Not only is it cheaper than hardwood flooring, but laminate wood is also more durable. Of course, when we talk about durability we are considering the resistance to scratches and wear. Being made from pressed wood and other materials laminate wood will be less prone to scratches and wear, and it is also easier to clean on a regular basis. Flooring parquetry and hardwood flooring, on the other hand, can get easily damaged since they are susceptible to scratching and can be ruined by excessive moisture. However, when it comes to repairs, hardwood flooring can be easily refurbished through sanding out and refinishing imperfections. Laminate wood, once worn and scratched has to be replaced.
The question of whether we should get solid timber flooring for our home or not is really a matter of budget. If we can afford it, then we should certainly go for it, as there is nothing more beautiful and stylish. Even though we might think that we’d be saving money if we are to choose laminate wood flooring, the fact is that hardwood and flooring parquetry is a bad investment only if we don’t take good care of it. On the long run, if we care for our home as we should, our investment in hardwood flooring will prove beneficial as, depending on the variety of wood that we choose, it will raise the value of our home considerably. It is actually a well-known fact that homes with hardwood flooring are more sought after, so if we’re going to move we’ll have no trouble in selling the house quickly.
