According to Wood Burning USA , an online retailer of wood burning stoves and fireplaces, wood stoves are on a steady rise in the US market. Sales took a steep dive in 2006 but has been on the rise ever since and shows no signs of slowing down.

As of January 2016, Google search engine reports an estimated 4500 searches per day on wood burning stoves and related searches. This is up from nearly 2500 searches per month just 10 years earlier.

“We predict our sales will continue to rise over the next 5 years and beyond” says Wood burning USA spokesman Cory Eckert, “The oldest and most reliable heat source in the world is in no danger of disappearing any time soon”.

Why are Wood Burning Stoves Gaining in Popularity?

Wood burning stoves have been around for centuries, it’s no surprise that people looking for a simple, proven method to heat their homes would turn to them when times are tough or unpredictable. With oil prices and stock markets all over the place in the past 10 years, many new movements have sprouted.

These include tiny house living, off grid living, and sustainable living. All these movements are gaining traction all over the world. As they do, people look for simple, effective ways to stay warm without relying on government or corporate run utilities and energy sources.

In a nutshell, people are becoming more self-reliant. Not everyone buying a wood burning stove is moving off the grid to live on the land. The vast majority of wood burning stove owners simply want to add a cheap, alternative heat source to their existing home.

What about Pollution from Burning Wood?

A lot has been said about wood burning stoves over the past 4-5 years in regards to the pollution they create. Much of what has been said is purely myth. Despite the rumors, these stoves still gain in popularity.

For example, there are many sites still today that claim the EPA is banning the vast majority of wood burning stoves in the US. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

The EPA is simply making its first emissions standards update regarding wood burning stoves in nearly 30 years. It states that new stoves being manufactured for use in the US must improve their emissions ratings. And guess what…. They have!

It’s pretty difficult right now to find a stove being sold in the US that does NOT meet or exceed the new EPA standards.
