Do you regularly have trouble hearing basic sounds or conversations? Have you ever had trouble hearing the tv or or have you noticed yourself turning up the volume? Perhaps you have experienced an intermittent or consistent ringing or buzzing in one or both of your ears? This can be incredibly frustrating for anyone experiencing any of these issues. Ringing and buzzing sounds, also known as tinnitus, are a common symptom of hearing loss that a large number of individuals face. Tinnitus is sound that is perceivable to the individual experiencing it with no outside sound source. For some people, it's a ringing sound, while for others, it can be a buzzing, humming, rushing, or whooshing sound. The sound might appear to come from one ear or both. It can be inconsistent, consistent or even pulsate. Imagine a scenario in which you could exercise your hearing through a mobile application designed to improve hearing and provide relief from tinnitus.
AudioCardio is a mobile app that assesses your hearing and generates a personalized inaudible sound therapy designed to maintain and strengthen your hearing. It is a once a day, one hour sound therapy that stimulates the cells inside your ear. You can think of it as an exercise for your hearing. The sound therapy is delivered using headphones or earbuds and passively runs in the background while you do other activities.
There are various types of hearing loss sufferers that AudioCardio hopes to help and support using patented Threshold Sound Conditioning technology.
Age-Related Hearing Loss (presbycusis)
Age-related hearing loss typically occurs in both ears, affecting them similarly, but not often identically. The damage can be debilitating and people with presbycusis may not be able to follow or understand conversations that are taking place around them. This can cause frustration, isolation, depression and has been linked to an increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia.
Noise Induced Hearing Loss
Noise is the most common cause of hearing loss. Noise and disturbances from yard cutters, snow blowers, and loud music can damage the inner ear, causing difficulty in communicating and following instructions. According to the OSHA, workers should not be exposed to more than 85 decibel volume noise and sounds for more than 8 hours per day. The CDC states that extended exposure to noises over 85 decibels can cause permanent hearing damage.
Sudden Hearing Loss
Sudden sensorineural hearing loss can occur abruptly. It can happen to anyone all of a sudden or over a period as long as three days. Several treatments your medical professional can provide may help you recover from sudden hearing loss and improve hearing. People who experience this issue must visit a specialist immediately for the best chance of recovering their hearing.
Hearing loss can and will affect almost everyone as they age. Understanding how hearing loss occurs and how to best care for your ears and hearing are essential in keeping them healthy.
