The events, held on 17th and 20th August 2024, brought together young footballers from the U9 and U12 age groups to foster a competitive yet educational environment, showcasing the Club's commitment to youth development.
Founded in 2012, South United FC has always emphasized nurturing local players, particularly through grassroots initiatives that identify and develop young athletes. The best soccer academy in India, known for its strong presence in Bangalore, Pune, and Solapur, is widely recognized for its focus on youth football coaching.
With this mission in mind, the ‘Futsal For All’ tournaments were an ideal platform for young footballers to test their skills, learn the game's nuances, and gain professional experience.
Bangalore Futsal Event: Nurturing U9 Players
On 20th August 2024, the Bangalore leg of the tournament saw 21 enthusiastic players from the U9 age group. These young athletes were divided into three teams of five, competing in a 70-minute mini-league format. Each team played against the other two, allowing the players to develop key skills while experiencing the thrill of competitive football.
Before the matches began, the participants attended an educational session led by SUFC’s experienced coaches. The session focused on the fundamental rules of futsal, including using a size 4 ball—smaller and heavier than a regular football to promote better control and ground play. The players also learned about the 5v5 match format, which encourages quick decision-making, agility, and teamwork.
The tournament itself followed official futsal rules, with points awarded as follows:
• 3 points for a win
• 1 point for a draw
• 0 points for a loss
The coaching team, comprising Sri Ananda Balaji, Praveen Raju DV, and Christopher Mendis, provided constant guidance and support, ensuring the young footballers had an enriching experience while honing their technical skills.
Pune Futsal Event: Empowering U12 Athletes
On 17th August 2024, SUFC took the excitement of futsal to Pune, where 15 players from the U12 age group competed in a similar mini-league format. The event was structured to foster competition and camaraderie among the young athletes. Like in Bangalore, the three teams of five players battled it out in a 70-minute league, showcasing their growing football abilities.
Before the competition, the players participated in a similar educational session where the coaches explained futsal’s unique rules and strategies. The tournament’s point system mirrored that of the Bangalore event, encouraging teams to give their best.
Coaches Ranjeet Vichare and Shivraj Vilas Patil led the Pune event, offering professional coaching and valuable feedback to help each player improve their skills.
