Central Edinburgh based printing company Edinburgh Banners reveals extensive upgrades to its equipment after a surprisingly strong start to the new business. Passionate-about-print directors David Kohler and Sam Drydenhave expanded the scope of the business bypurchasing one of the largest PVC banner printers in Scotland.
The printing company located just south of Arthur's Seat hill opened its doors this June after engineer Sam Dryden and Accounting and Finance graduate David Kohler, having returned from a 20,000 mile adventure across Europe and Asia, decided to realize their dream of helping to spread beautiful design into the world. After the young entrepreneurs had crunched the numbers and printed the battle plans, Edinburgh Banners was born.
Same day local delivery was the key to their success. For leaflets, roll-ups and PVC banners, the self-proclaimed “specialists in speed” will deliver on the same day, or have the products ready for same day collection. Currently this only applies for orders from Edinburgh and Glasgow, though the partners intend to reduce the delivery time for orders elsewhere across the nation as time goes on. The speedy lead time has appealed to business people of the internet age, who expect products to be delivered faster than ever.
Music fans might already be familiar with theproducts, as the company was able to supply over 100,000 flyers for Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year. Sam also notes that Edinburgh Banners had a “very successful summer”, providing PVC banners and exhibition stands for events such as the Royal Highland Show.
For newly graduated Dave, whose only previous business had been selling novelty printed toilet paper, the success has been a lovely surprise “At times our print room seemed as hectic as Princess street when getting flyers out the door for shows.”
“Fringe was incredible for us, living in Edinburgh for most of my life it’s easy to get annoyed by the busy streets and tourists in August. Now running local businesses, it was a blessing,”
More follows…
“Starting a business is definitely tougher than I thought. We started in a spare room the same width as the printer. To change rolls of PVC for every print we had to climb through the machine on hands and knees. It was fine at first, but hard going doing it at 3am! Since we moved to the new office things have been much better.”
Sam and Dave aren’t resting on their laurels. They are reinvesting their profits to offer even higher quality flyers, leaflets, and letter heads, at industry leading prices. The latest addition to their impressive line of machinery is a plus size PVC banner printer, able to print up to 3.5m wide, suitable for building wraps or even sports stadium advertisements.
