Cosmetology is the art and science of beautifying the skin, hair, and nails. Cosmetologists are masters of treatments, procedures, and therapies that help their clients accentuate their best features and present a more attractive version of them. Cosmetologists perform treatments, apply products, and offer guidance and counsel on the cosmetic treatment of hair, skin, and nails. Cosmetologists do not treat medical conditions associated with skin, hair, nails. “Cosmetology” is an umbrella term that covers numerous services and specialties -- though there are crossover educational programs for several areas.

In the Cosmetology School South Shore one can excel a career successfully in the South Eastern Technical Institute. This particulate stream started in 1968 and the first class started in March 2014. There is in-depth training program with experienced teachers. This is an intense course of study including both theory and practical components based on the needs set forth in the Massachusetts Board of Cosmetology School South Shore rules and regulations.

This program provides hands-on training in the beauty industry. Clinical training is supported by extensive study of related sciences in hair, skin, and nails. Demonstrations by guest artists and field trips to beauty shows are used as educational tools. Students prepare to take the state license exam for cosmetology certification. Co-­op and job placement are available after students have completed their 1000­ hour program and passed the State Board exam. The course curriculum includes salon management, computer training, client preparation, retailing, scalp treatments, hairstyling, hair cutting, permanent waves, hair coloring, hair lightening techniques, braiding, facials, make-­up and manicures.

The course schedule allows practical application on friends, family and school patrons once students have reached the appropriate amount of hours as required by state of Massachusetts.

The program starts every Fall and Spring semester. It’s a total 14 month program. Classes are held 4 nights per week and 5.5 hours per night (1/2hr for dinner break) every Monday to Thursday, from 4:00 to 9:30 p.m.
