Dr. Sid Solomon and the Center for Cosmetic, Implant and Neuromuscular Dentistry have established a new academic scholarship, “Dr. Sid Solomon DDS Dream Big, Smile Big Dental Scholarship.”

Dr. Sid Solomon, the founder of the Center for Cosmetic, Implant and Neuromuscular Dentistry, is announcing the establishment of a new scholarship that will be awarded to students who either plan on or are currently pursuing an academic field of study related to dentistry. The recipient of the "Dr. Sid Solomon DDS Dream Big, Smile Big Dental Scholarship" will be announced on March 16, 2016, and the deadline for application is February 28, 2016.

The scholarship is worth $750 and is open to college students -- from incoming freshmen to rising seniors -- currently working toward a degree in dentistry or on a major highly relevant to the field of dentistry. Applicants are subject to certain eligibility requirements relating to academic performance and must be attending an accredited college or university as a full-time student in the fall of 2016. The scholarship centers on the submission of a 1,000 to 1,500-word essay in which the applicant is tasked with responding to a prompt discussing the current role of dentistry: “Why do you think dentistry is relevant in today’s society?”

“It is with a tremendous sense of pride that we are able to offer this scholarship to a student who intends to pursue a career in such a wonderful and absolutely critical field,” said Dr. Solomon. “Our goal in awarding this scholarship is to encourage dentistry students as they pursue their academic and professional goals while also offering our support and expressing our appreciation.”

After receipt of the application materials, the scholarship committee will evaluate each candidate according to a variety of standards. Essays should be supported with real-world examples and should include citations for any sources used in crafting the essay. The quality of each applicant’s essay will be judged based on several distinct factors, with a particular emphasis on “insight, creativity, and authenticity.”

Once the winner of the scholarship is announced on March 16, 2016, Dr. Sid Solomon and the Center for Cosmetic, Implant and Neuromuscular Dentistry will award the $750 to the recipient by sending the funds to the designated institution’s financial aid office, where the funds will be applied to any eligible educational expenses.

In awarding this scholarship, Dr. Solomon continues to demonstrate his unwavering commitment to the dental profession along with his belief in the importance of supporting the educational pursuits of others in any way possible. Throughout his nearly 30 years in the profession, Dr. Solomon has frequently pursued continuing education opportunities through a variety of postgraduate programs and has served as a potent example of the highly beneficial nature of a commitment to lifelong learning.
