TikTok E-Commerce Program Enters the US Market

More content creators have signed up for The TikTok Shop following its launch in early August. With this, the company gradually offers more features for its clients, including an affiliate program.
 
[Shenzhen, 08/24/2023] Creators are eagerly joining TikTok's e-commerce platform to sell their products two weeks after its official launch directly. TikTok introduced this feature to empower creators by providing them new revenue streams. Now, they can sell their products exclusively on TikTok Shop, eliminating the need for third-party websites while avoiding contractual obligations and extra fees associated with other platforms.

Entering the E-Commerce Market

Popular social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat have all dabbled in in-app shopping. On the other hand, TikTok is joining the e-commerce game almost a year after testing shoppable advertising options in preparation for the holiday season. These options allowed advertisers to showcase products in in-feed videos, promote product catalogs through videos, and include clickable ads in live videos.

Enhance the Authenticity of Product Reviews

Allowing creators to bring their fans closer to making purchases can enhance the authenticity of their product reviews. With TikTok's new feature of uploading video responses to products, influencers can now sell products themselves with fewer restrictions, which aligns with their goal of attracting bigger brands. This integration feels natural and curated, empowering influencers to showcase their selling skills within a short video.

Development and Alpha Testing

The development of the TikTok Shop started in November 2022 and underwent closed-invite alpha testing in the U.S. The exact number of participants remains undisclosed. This exclusive ecosystem grants users effortless product discovery and swift purchases, ensuring a seamless one-stop shopping experience.

Extended Beta Program

In response to feedback from beta merchants, TikTok extended its TikTok Shop beta program to a select group of a few hundred merchants. These merchants voiced their desires for an e-commerce platform that caters to their specific needs, which had previously gone unaddressed on TikTok.

Affiliate Program

TikTok Shop also provides an affiliate program that links creators and influencers with sellers, enabling creators to earn commissions through product marketing. By connecting TikTok's vibrant community, creators can monetize their brands and creativity. According to a TikTok spokesperson, the affiliate commissions range from one percent to a percentage determined by the brand.
